“Our platform recognizes the needs of middle class Wisconsinites…the 90% of Wisconsin that don’t work for Government – that struggle to pay their bills, to pay into their pension plan, to pay for their health care, and to send their kids to college. We’re working to make Government smaller, more efficient, and cost effective for the people of Wisconsin – actually shrinking the size of Government while serving the needs of Wisconsinites.”

Sean Duffy" src="http://www.wis7gop.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/duffy-150x150.jpg" alt="" width="150" height="150" />After 42 years of District Caucuses, without an elected Republican in office, the 7th Congressional District welcomed freshman Congressman Sean Duffy to their Hayward meeting on March 19th. The event was both a celebration of accomplishments over the previous year, but also a call to action to stay involved as we head into 2012.

President Obama and Democrats in Washington have continued spending at record levels pushing the United States to a $14 Trillion deficit. Republicans seem to be the only ones willing to put the government’s financial house in order and the leadership is going to have to come out of the Republican controlled House of Representatives.

Democrats want to simply maintain the status quo in hopes that the budget will balance itself. Their answer is to hold spending at its current levels, but that is simply not sustainable and will be a disaster for the country.

Senate Republicans approved a two-year ban on earmarks today with just one Republican voting no. U.S. Sen.-elect Ron Johnson, a co-sponsor of the caucus resolution, was pleased the Senate GOP took this crucial first step to assure America that Republicans will follow through with the platforms they campaigned on. "During the campaign, I promised voters of Wisconsin that I would do everything I could to reduce the out of control spending that threatens America’s future,” Johnson said. “I fully intend to honor that promise." Read more on the WISGOP Blog.

Wisconsin voters went to the polls last week to decide a number of federal, state, and local races in the midterm election. The results showed a strong desire to change direction in public policy both in Madison and Washington D.C. towards initiatives that will have a direct impact on promoting job growth.

Voters chose Scott Walker to be Wisconsin’s new governor, while Ron Johnson was elected to the U.S. Senate. Two new U.S. Representatives were elected, Sean Duffy and Reid Ribble, in northern Wisconsin. Meanwhile, the State Legislature changed from Democratic to Republican control, with Republican majorities in the State Senate of 19-14 and in the State Assembly of 60-38-1.

Following the election last week, Senate Republicans met to elect new leadership for the 2011-12 legislative session that will begin in January. Governor-elect Walker stopped by our meeting to discuss his plans and priorities for the session, including calling the Legislature into emergency session after he is sworn in to pass legislation to promote job growth. The message sent by voters that jobs and the economy must be job one was heard by those that were elected on November 2. Enacting policies to encourage job creators to expand and locate in Wisconsin is the top priority of the State Legislature and Governor-elect Walker.

The State Legislature will also be charged with addressing the state’s budget deficit, which is currently estimated to be nearly $3 billion. After years of raiding funds, federal bailouts, and shifting spending to balance the state budget, there are no more easy fixes… Read more here.
